The purpose of the WEST program is to assess the knowledge and skills of prospective Washington public school educators. WEST tests are designed to ensure that Washington educators can communicate adequately and are knowledgeable in the subject matter of the certification sought.

WEST tests are criterion-referenced, objective-based tests designed to measure a candidate’s subject matter knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard, rather than in relation to the performance of other candidates.
